Pauline Rochefort, Mayor of East Ferris is looking to run for the federal Liberals in Nipissing-Timiskaming.

She announced she’s seeking the nomination on Saturday.

“I am a contender for the nomination, and I have chosen to announce my intention today, Feb. 15, as we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Canadian flag,” says Rochefort.  “There has never been a more opportune moment in our recent history to proudly proclaim our citizenship. There has never been a more important time to stand up for Canada, to invest in Nipissing-Timiskaming and to continue our journey as a nation of builders.”

Now into her second term as East Ferris Mayor, she says she brings over 30 years of experience in the fields of economic development, finance and business strategy.

Rochefort says she works with all political leaders and is now committed to defending the interests of the Nipissing-Timiskaming region.

“It would be a privilege to represent the citizens of Nipissing-Timiskaming and all the communities in the constituency,” she says. “I will work at tackling the high cost of living and search for ways to unleash our region’s potential with investments and jobs.”

MP Anthony Rota, who previously announced he won’t be running again, says Rochefort has been a strong advocate for her community.

“I was very happy when she agreed to run because with her experience, knowledge and ability, she is the right person to move us forward in Nipissing-Timiskaming,” he says.

The local federal Liberal riding association recently said it will confirm its candidate, once approved by party headquarters in Ottawa.
