Nipissing-Timiskaming’s Liberal candidate is applauding the election of Mark Carney as the party’s new leader and incoming Prime Minister.
“Mark is a strong leader who brings to Canada solid financial judgement, shrewd international negotiation skills, and a passionate commitment to individual Canadians and our sovereignty,” says Pauline Rochefort.
The former Bank of Canada governor overwhelmed his three opponents, winning the Liberal leadership race with almost 86 per cent of the vote.
Carney will meet with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Tuesday to discuss the hand-over.
Once he’s officially named Prime Minister, he will then choose a cabinet.
Political observers expect Carney to call a federal election before Parliament resumes on March 24th.
