Provincial funding for emergency preparedness and Indigenous midwifery services

Two townships in Nipissing are receiving provincial funding to prepare for and respond to emergencies.

The money comes from the Community Emergency Preparedness Grant, which provides funding for local emergency management training, equipment purchases, and infrastructure improvements.

“Our government is proud to support Bonfield and Chisholm townships, so they’re equipped to respond effectively when crisis occurs,” says Vic Fedeli, Nipissing MPP. “These investments build on ogovernment’support to protect Ontario, ensuring we remain resilient and prepared”.

Chisholm is receiving nearly $48,000 for emergency signage, two trailers and a drone to support flood response.

Just over $45,000 goes to Bonfield for communication equipment, such as radios and dispatch/recording software.

Fedeli also announced a quarter million dollars in funding for K’Tigaaning Midwives – Victorian Order of Nurses for Canada, providing culturally appropriate care to Indigenous families in our community.

“VON is extremely pleased to receive this funding to facilitate an expansion of the Indigenous Midwifery Program in North Bay,” says Davina Wong, Associate Vice President, Home and Community Care. “VON is thrilled to be working in partnership with the K’Tigaaning Midwives to deliver services in the region.”

$50,000 in funding was earmarked for 2024-25 with $200,000 for 2025-26.
