19 drivers charged with speeding on day one of city police traffic blitz

The North Bay Police Service says 20 provincial offence notices were issued on day one of its week-long traffic blitz.

On Monday, 19 drivers were ticketed for speeding with one ticketed with ‘fail to surrender licence’ under the Highway Traffic Act.

Police say radar and LiDAR technology was used by officers to stop multiple vehicles in the Airport Road, Ski Club Road and Lakeside Drive areas of the city.

“This strategic enforcement initiative targeted areas where our service frequently receives complaints of speeding infractions” says Jeff Warner, Inspector of Operations. “Although this was a targeted initiative, these are only a few of the areas where our officers will be focusing on speed enforcement throughout the year. As the warmer weather approaches and children are back out on their bikes, skateboards and scooters, it takes a fraction of a second for an inattentive driver or excessive speed for a preventable tragic accident to happen. Our officers will be out enforcing the rules of the road in an effort to ensure our roads remain safe”.

Monday’s blitz was a part of road safety week.

Officers are targeting speeding, cell phone use, stop-sign and red-light violations, and enclosed mobility scooter violations.

Another focus is Commercial Motor Vehicle infractions.
