Over 60 speeding charges were filed by city police during its Road Safety Week blitz.
The North Bay Police Service says it intensified traffic enforcement during the week-long initiative (May 12-19).
Other charges include following too closely, failing to stop for red and amber lights, failing to surrender a license and more.
Police also seized a vehicle for stunt driving, clocking the driver at 104 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone.
“The goal is public safety, as traffic collisions are a leading cause of preventable death and injury to both the public and the police,” says Douglas MacIntosh, Traffic Enforcement Officer.
Police say there was a 50% reduction in the number of injury-causing collisions in North Bay during the Road Safety Week Traffic Blitz, compared to the week before.
A variety of written warnings were also issued with five warning-letters sent to vehicle owners after eight fail to stop for school bus investigations were done.
Police say they also teamed up with Ontario Provincial Police for a commercial vehicle operation and a joint enforcement initiative during the week.
