Hundreds of people converging on North Bay this weekend

Several events are taking place over the next few days in North Bay, bringing in hundreds of competitors and visitors.

The NOSSA boys’ and girls’ tennis championship is taking place at the North Bay Granite Club on Friday.

About 45 student athletes are competing.

There’s also a pickleball tournament at Canadore College on Friday and Saturday, bringing in an estimated 180 competitors.

Another 250 athletes are expected for the 37th annual Northern Flights Ultimate Frisbee tournament.

It takes place on Saturday and Sunday at the Omischl Complex.

Also, this weekend is the 105th Annual Sault Ste. Marie Diocesan Convention of The Catholic Women’s League of Canada.

An estimated 150 people are gathering for the event, which takes place Friday through Sunday at the Davedi Club.

“Members from as far west as Sault Ste. Marie and as far east as Callander, and places in between, will gather as women of faith, to pray together, to strengthen the bond of sisterhood, to participate in workshops and learn about the CWL, to develop leadership skills, to have fun and share stories, renew acquaintances, and create lifelong friendships,” states a release.

A flag raising ceremony Friday at 11 am at North Bay City Hall will mark the official beginning of CWL Week, and the opening of the convention.
