Clean, Green, Beautiful North Bay (CGB) says several green initiatives are underway and adding to the city’s tree canopy.

They teamed up with North Bay Hydro last week to donate oak and maple trees to Vincent Massey Public School, and maple and birch trees to Silver Birches Public School.

Officials say the trees will be used to help students understand how to properly care for a tree and why tree planting is important.

They also say students at St Alexander Catholic Elementary School gained hands-on experience planting six fruit trees earlier this week.

CGB North Bay says 14 orchards, planted since 2020, are thriving in the community.

13 of the orchards have been sponsored by Canadore College.

On top of tree planting efforts, the CGB team continues to assist local groups preparing their community garden spaces for spring planting, including Northern Pines Transitional Housing and students and staff at Sunset Park, with their front garden space.

Details on the national Communities in Bloom National Competition are also emerging.

Officials say the judges will be arriving in the city July 22-24.
