NICU benefits from charity golf tournament

More than 30-thousand dollars was raised at the sold out Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Charity Golf Tournament last weekend.

Officials say money raised is supporting the NICU at the North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC), through the purchase of biliblankets, which are used in treating jaundice in newborns.

“Each year, we’re reminded how deeply this community cares about its hospital and the families who count on it,” says Geoff Richardson, tournament co-chair. “Thanks to the continued generosity of our sponsors, golfers and volunteers, the NICU Charity Golf Tournament presented by North Bay Mazda is making a lasting difference. Every dollar raised helps equip our NICU with the tools and technology needed to give newborns the strongest start possible right here at home.”

The Marsen family shared their experience with tournament participants. “It’s truly special to witness the generosity of our community, as a family whose lives were forever changed by the care our twins received in the NICU,” says Krista Marsen. “Thanks to the incredible team at NBRHC, and the specialized equipment, our babies were in the very best hands right here at home, when every minute mattered.”

Tammy Morison, President and CEO of the NBRHC Foundation says the ability to purchase lifesaving medical equipment depends on strong partnerships between government, the hospital and the community.

“Every contribution, whether through monthly gifts, legacy giving, or corporate sponsorship, ensures patients receive the best care possible,” says Morison.

The tournament took place at Osprey Links on Sunday, May 25.
