Three honourary degrees being presented by Nipissing this week

More than 1,000 graduating students will cross the stage at convocation ceremonies this week at Nipissing University.

Three honourary degrees are also being presented.

Jennifer Jones, Olympic gold medalist, two-time world curling champion and six-time national champion, will receive a Doctor of Education (honoris causa) on Tuesday.

Wednesday’s ceremony will see Janine Lafrenière, educator and advocate in supporting survivors and ending gender-based violence, receive a Doctor of Letters (honoris causa).

William Prince, a JUNO Award-winning singer-songwriter from Peguis First Nation, will receive the Doctor of Letters (honoris causa) on Thursday.

“We are deeply honoured to recognize Jennifer Jones, Janine  and William Prince for their leadership, creativity, and commitment to making a difference,” said Dr. Kevin Wamsley, President and Vice-Chancellor. “Their array of achievements reflect the values we hold as an institution and will inspire our graduates as they prepare to make their own impact on the world.”

The university says honourary degrees, its highest distinction, are presented to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to their fields and to society.
