A local hotel employee is being honoured for performing a lifesaving act this past April.

As a part of Kindness Week, Sheri St. Martin was awarded the Mary Davis Heart of Kindness Award Thursday.

Officials say the front desk employee at Homewood Suites by Hilton performed CPR on a guest in medical distress, and her quick intervention was instrumental in saving the woman’s life.

“It was a terrifying experience, but I would do it again in a heartbeat,” shares St. Martin. “I don’t know the woman that I saved, but I absolutely love her.”

St. Martin says its a good, but weird feeling being honoured.

“There’s people that do this every day,” she says.  “I know that what I did was a big thing, but I don’t feel like I deserve an award. There are lots of people that deserve awards. People do this all the time. I do feel happy that people are thinking about me.”

Nipissing Paramedic Services presented the award to St. Martin.

The award, named after the inaugural recipient and CEO of Canadian Mental Health Association North Bay and District, is presented to an individual who exemplifies extraordinary compassion and kindness within the community.

Kindness Week wraps up on Friday with the community being invited to a free lunch.

It takes place from noon to 1:30 pm in the Regis Parkette at Fraser and Main.
