Seven Seniors Active Living Centres in NIpissing are receiving $370,000.
Vic Fedeli, MPP for Nipissing, announced the money supports the centres that offer seniors and older adults learning opportunities, including financial management, elder abuse prevention, and a variety of recreational and social activities.
“June is Seniors Month, a time to celebrate the contributions our seniors have made to make this province the great place it is today,” says Fedeli. “These programs bring people together to be with old friends and meet new friends, providing ongoing recreational, social, and lifestyle activities.”
Investments include:
- $59,420 to The Village Community Hub in Canadore College.
- $59,420 to Les Jeunes de Coeur a North Bay avec Les Compagnons
- $59,420 to the North Bay Golden Age Club
- $59,420 for Club Action 50+ East Ferris
- $58,586 to the Mattawa Senior Citizens Club
- $41,376 to the Callander Elderly Persons’ Centre (Legion Branch 445)
- $33,420 to the Powassan Seniors in Action Program
“Canadore launched The Village as an innovative community hub to foster healthy aging through inter-professional, inter-cultural, and intergenerational collaboration,” says George Burton, Canadore President and CEO. “By connecting students, seniors, and local agencies, The Village supports independent living, social inclusion, and access to essential programs and services. Canadore thanks the Government of Ontario for its ongoing support of the program, designating The Village as a Seniors Active Living Centre.”
Richard Rhindress, President, RCL Branch 445, Callander says the funding allows seniors to stay engaged, fit, healthy, and socially connected.
“There are a number of organized activities at the Callander branch, such as playing cards, knitting etc. where the seniors meet weekly and connect with their friends. They can enjoy monthly dinners and scheduled outings,” Rhindress says.
