Road work is on the way to Seymour Street.
Council approved the awarding of a nearly $9 million contract on Tuesday.
“Due to the existing and future traffic volumes on Seymour Street from Station Road to Wallace Road, which is only a two-lane road, the completed Municipal Class Environmental Assessment, Schedule C report recommended that Seymour Street should be upgraded to reflect the City’s urban collector road section consisting of one eastbound lane, one westbound lane and a two-way center left turn lane,” states a staff report.
The project will also see traffic controls and turning lanes added at the Seymour/Commerce/Venture intersection.
The city also says a 400 mm diameter watermain is proposed for the Seymour corridor from Wallace Road to Cholette Street.
A staff report says it’s part of an overall plan to provide an alternate water feed to the downtown core from the existing water treatment plant and pumping station located on Trout Lake.
Other infrastructure work is already taking place in that area.
Sidewalks are being added and stormwater improvements are taking place along Commerce Crescent and Wallace Road.
