We’re just under three weeks away from the national Communities in Bloom judges arriving in North Bay.

Clean, Green, Beautiful (CGB) is putting out the call for residents and businesses to help get ready for their evaluation of the city.

“The community has been incredible, and we are excited to welcome the judges to our city,” says Hariett Madigan, CGB Chair. “We are asking for everyone to do their part to make North Bay clean, green, and beautiful.”

Ways to pitch in include:

  • Beautify Your Space: Ensure your property, including lawns, sidewalks, and public spaces, are clean and well-maintained.
  • Clean and Tidy: Participate in a CGB clean-up and order bags to help keep North Bay clean, green, and beautiful
  • Showcase Heritage: Maintain heritage buildings, monuments, memorials, cemeteries etc.
  • Promote Environmental Actions: Demonstrate sustainable practices such as recycling, composting, and water conservation.
  • Tree Care: Ensure trees on your property are healthy, pruned, and well-maintained.
  • Enhance Landscaping: Consider adding new plants or features to your landscape to enhance its appearance. Try contributing to the 2025 CiB theme by planting edible species.

Both of the judges are from Ontario, with one being a senior landscape architect at the National Capital Commission in Ottawa.

From July 22 to 24, the judges will tour the city, evaluating achievements in six categories:

  • Community Appearance
  • Environmental Action
  • Heritage Conservation
  • Tree Management
  • Landscape
  • Plant and Floral Displays

CGB is also asking anyone with sandwich boards, marquees, digital advertising signs, or window space to post a “Welcome CiB Judges” message between July 22-24.

Last year, the city received five blooms in the national population category, with a special mention for Northern Pines, and won the Outstanding Achievement for Community Appearance award.
