County 90.5 FM’s Kevin Oschefski is once again lacing up his walking shoes in support of the CIBC Run for the Cure.
Last year, he walked and ran 129 km from the Northeast Cancer Centre in Sudbury to downtown North Bay in honour of his wife, Josie, who is now medically cancer-free after battling breast cancer.
“There are a lot of people that are still going through what they were going through a year ago regarding their battle with breast cancer,” says Oschefski. “For a lot of people their journey has started since we took that trip a year ago. I thought for one more time, in honour, and to let those people know we’re still with them, that’s why we would do it one more time.”
‘Kevin O’s One More Walk Home’ takes place Oct. 1-4.
“It’s going to be tough again like it was last year,” he says. “But when you see the people on the side of the road and people honking their horns, it just drives you to keep going.”
Donations are being accepted online.
Oschefski says you can also call and he’ll go and pick up the donation, if needed.
After having done the walk/run last year, he says he’s learned a few things that should help his feet this time around.
“I’m going to tape my feet in moleskin which was recommended last year but it was too late,” he says. “I’m going to wear toe socks, so my toes don’t rub together. Those are the two things.”
This is Think Pink Week in support of the CIBC Run for the Cure.
A proclamation and cake cutting was held at the Main West CIBC branch Monday morning.
The run takes place Sunday, Oct. 5.
