22 Wing’s new commander is no stranger to North Bay.

Colonel Shawn Guilbault took over command in a ceremony Friday from Colonel Joe Oldford.

“I feel deeply honoured to assume command of 22 Wing and the Canadian Air Defence Sector,” says Guilbault. “Colonel Olford has done incredible work, and under his leadership he’s left a lasting and meaningful impact on this Wing. Since coming back to North Bay, I have felt the strength, pride, and mission-focus that define this remarkable team. I am both excited and humbled by the opportunity to work alongside such dedicated professionals carrying out our NORAD mission 24/7. I take on this responsibility with a sense of duty and optimism. We will continue to build upon this strong foundation, generating operational capability, and delivering on our mission to protect Canada and North America.”

Officials say Colonel Olford has served as the Commander of 22 Wing since July 2024, adding under his command 22 Wing has seen great change while demonstrating excellence in the execution of its mission, making significant contributions to the defence of Canada and North America.

Commander 1 Canadian Air Division / Canadian NORAD Region Major General C.A. McKenna presided over Friday’s ceremony at 22 Wing.
