North Bay and Sturgeon Falls helped raise more than $21,000 for three charities on McHappy Day this year.
The money is supporting One Kids Place (OKP) Children’s Treatment Centre, the North Bay Regional Health Centre Foundation and Ronald McDonald House Charities.
At the health centre, the money is going to their Youth Mental Health Fund.
“This fund is providing resources to programs that will be impactful and respond to the immediate needs for mental health care for youth – Child and Adolescent Psychiatry,” says Kelly Smirle, Manager. “These services are growing to meet the needs of our youth population and ensure we can respond to with appropriate care – whether it be inpatient care or outpatient clinics.”
One Kids Place will be able to support young children showing early signs of Autism Spectrum Disorder with their Early Intervention Services.
“This specialized therapy uses relationship-based, play-centered intervention that fosters motivation, attention, and learning, helping each child reach their fullest potential during this critical stage of development,” says Katharine Strang, OKP Director of Development and Community Relations.”
Shiv Randhawa, who assumed ownership of McDonald’s North Bay and Sturgeon Falls in 2025 says he was inspired by the support of the community.
“McHappy Day was a meaningful opportunity for me and our staff to connect with volunteers and community members while having an impact on three incredible charities. It was a day filled with energy and generosity that engaged more than 100 volunteers. I am grateful to be a part of the impact the day will have on children and families in our area,” he says.
Across the country, 16 Ronald McDonald Houses provide out-of-town families with a home to stay at while their child is being treated at a nearby hospital.
