Nipissing University spending more on students while projecting deficit

More money for students means a projected deficit for Nipissing University.

The Board of Governors approved an operating budget that would feature a $4-million deficit for 2016-17.

Although the budget includes a nine per cent increase in spending in student services from this past year’s budget.

As well, 62 per cent of the total expenditures are geared towards academic departments and academic support.

Tuition for some programs will not increase, while some have increased by three per cent.

With revenues in the $66-million range and expenses near $77-million the university is projecting that deficit.

In a release Nipissing states the deficit is $570,000 less than in this past year’s budget.
