Forum tonight focuses on keeping Cassellholme public

Fred Hahn says there’s plenty of evidence to support that public is the best when it comes to Cassellholme.

The president of CUPE Ontario will be in North Bay tonight to support that theory at a public forum.

He will be joined by a professor and researcher from Carleton University who has explored long-term care facilities as a research project. Dr. Susan Braedley will be presenting evidence from those studies.

Hahn says this is a topic everyone should care about. He says we don’t often think about long-term care for our loved ones until it is needed.

Hahn adds North Bay has a jewel in Cassellholme that has been here for over 100 years.

Over 800 North Bay and Nipissing area residents recently took part in a poll on the future of Cassellholme. Results showed 87 per cent said they want the mayor and council to keep the long-term care home in public hands.

Hahn says the services that are provided at Cassellholme are the best model of long-term care for seniors. He says the way to keep that service at its highest quality is to make sure it is a publicly run municipal home for seniors.

The forum starts at 7:00pm at Discovery North Bay.
