Building permit numbers way up through first five months

There have been some big building projects in North Bay through the first 5 months of the year.

This includes the new Health Unit building, the downtown hotel and the MNRF Fire Management Facility at the Airport Industrial Park.

Mayor Al McDonald says these projects have helped skyrocket the building permit numbers from where they were the last two years. McDonald says the city is up 79 per cent over this time last year and over 200 per cent compared to 2014.

He says this really shows confidence by the developers and investors into the city.

The total through June 1st is over $47-million.

The commercial side has helped table $23-million of that total with $16-million coming from the institutional and another $6-million on the residential side.

McDonald says they are seeing slow building numbers in the residential sector across the north so it isn’t a major concern.

He adds total construction values last year were at $68-million and there are a number of other projects still in the works that will bring this year’s numbers up even further.
