Bear spray incident leads to charges

A 21-year-old city man is facing ten charges after North Bay Police say three people were sprayed with bear spray on Wednesday night.

City police say a verbal altercation around 10 that night, near Fraser Street and Second Avenue, escalated with the victims sprayed.

Two received medical treatment with one taken to hospital.

Charges include:
· Three Counts of Assault with a Weapon
· Three Counts of Administer Noxious Thing
· Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
· Fail to Comply with Prohibition Order
· Fail to Comply with Probation Order
· Fail to Comply with Release Order

Police say all parties were known to one another, with the accused located a short time later and arrested.

“Bear spray is a serious weapon that can cause significant harm to those exposed,” says Insp. Scott McFarlane. “We remind the public that using bear spray against another person can have serious legal consequences for the person responsible.”

The accused was held in custody, pending a bail hearing.
