(UPDATE) Police say investigation finds no safety concerns for students

We’re learning more about a North Bay Police Service investigation into student threats.

Police say they responded to a report at approximately 4 pm on Thursday regarding threatening comments made by a student on social media, involving an alleged firearm.

An investigation was launched with those responsible identified.

Police say officers have determined there are no ongoing safety concerns, and students can safely return to school.

They add they worked collaboratively with West Ferris Secondary School officials throughout the investigation.

“NBPS recognizes that incidents of this nature can cause concern and uncertainty for parents, guardians, students, school staff and the broader community,” states a release. “The NBPS takes all threats of this nature very seriously and is committed to thoroughly investigating them.

To protect the privacy of the young people involved, no further information will be released at this time.

Anyone who observes suspicious activity or becomes aware of a potential threat is encouraged to report it to police immediately.
