Local students racing through the pumpkin patch

A field of nearly 500 student athletes are converging on the fields at Leisure Farms today (Oct. 14).

From 10 am to 2 pm, grade 3 to 8 students from all four local boards are taking part in the Leisure Farms Cross Country Race.

Along with Sturgeon Falls, they’re coming from North Bay, River Valley and Verner.

Conseil scolaire catholique Franco-Nord officials say the rain or shine event has grown from the 180 students that took part last year.

“Seeing 500 students united around a common goal is a tremendous source of pride. This event perfectly reflects our commitment to inclusion, well-being, and the success of all students,” says Tina Legault-Ouellet, Director of Education.

The board says the initiative promotes both physical and mental well-being of young people while encouraging personal achievement, teamwork, respect, and a sense of belonging.
