Have your say in how the city develops the downtown-waterfront area

Do you have an idea on what the downtown-waterfront area should look like?

City officials want to hear from you at their upcoming workshop. Beverley Hillier is the Manager of Planning Services and she says the workshop will include ideas from previous plans. She says this stems from the Waterfront Tourist Commercial Attraction Feasibility Study – which recommended doing this workshop.

There were also suggestions in the Baylor University study that will be brought forward and ideas from other recommendations and proposals.

Hillier says they want input on the vision and comprehensive view of the downtown-waterfront area. She says they hope to pool together everyone’s ideas into one master plan.

Hillier says they have done workshops in the past where they can find a consensus on everything that’s brought forward. She says ultimately any plan or recommendation will have to go to council for a final decision.

If you would like to attend the workshop you can call city hall by Monday to confirm.

Hillier says you do not need to bring anything but your ideas and enthusiasm. There will be a half-hour introduction from the consultant team on the work that has already been done in the area. Following that there will be breakout sessions with small groups to discuss ideas before presenting to the entire workshop.

Hillier says this is the first step in the plan and they will have more opportunities for consultation on whatever options are brought forward. She says they want to make sure they hear everyone and make sure they are headed in the right direction.

The workshop takes place on Thursday, June 23rd at the WKP Kennedy Gallery from 6:00pm – 8:30pm. You can also find more information on the city’s website or Facebook page.
