Leading actors impressed with North Bay film scene

Stefanie von Pfetten will be spending plenty of time in North Bay while playing the character Jennifer Riley in a series of movies.

Last week Reel World Management announced six more films for the series being shot in the North Bay area.

von Pfetten says the series is about Riley, who is a homicide detective from New York with a mysterious past. She comes back to her home town to solve a crime, and the home town is based on locations filmed in North Bay. Pfetten says filming so far in North Bay has been a great experience. She says it’s beautiful and her favourite location was filming at a house on Trout Lake.

She says everyone has been wonderful, kind and hardworking. 80 per cent of the crew is from North Bay and she says it’s a reflection on how welcoming they have been and how the community has been as a whole.

Steven Byers agrees with von Pfetten on the welcoming aspects of North Bay.

Byers plays the character Haiden Blake and he says he can see why directors and producers are choosing North Bay. He says the Gateway City has everything between the trees, the rocks, the water and the willingness; it’s a win-win situation.

Byers says this is his second time shooting in North Bay. His previous experience was on the set of a film shot at the Underground Complex at CFB North Bay.

Byers says that in itself was an experience he won’t forget. He says it’s great when you get the chance to film in unique locations like that, and he says our city has a few of them.

Like von Pfetten, Byers says the community has been welcoming and over the three weeks of shooting he’s become close with the North Bayites on set and those who work at the hotel or restaurants he frequently visits.

He adds using local talent is an advantage because you’re not paying out hotel costs for everybody on set and they can pitch in on ideas about locations

. Byers’ says the movie itself has something for everyone. He describes it has a drama/romance/murder mystery that is appealing on all levels. He says there will be people who want a romantic type of film who will be intrigued by the murder mystery and vice versa.

The series will be seen on the A & E Network with the first instalment set to air in January.
