Battalion draft defenceman in CHL Import Draft

The North Bay Battalion has selected Adam Thilander from Sweden in the CHL Import Draft.

The Troops picked the six-foot tall defenceman with their 38th overall selection on Tuesday. Battalion Head Coach Stan Butler says Thilander is a highly skilled player, which is what they want out of their import picks.

He says the Battalion aren’t going to bring in players that they could’ve found closer to home. He says the team wants players the fans will like and who will be impact players.  Butler says he first saw Thilander at last summer’s Ivan Hlinka tournament where Thilander played for Sweden while Butler coached Team Canada.

Butler says Thilander was a target for a lot of teams. He says he’s already received a number of calls from other General Managers who are intrigued by the Swedish defenceman.

Butler says they will start talking to Thilander’s agent to make his commitment to North Bay official. He says Thilander is being talked about as a future first round NHL draft pick.
