Don’t be quick to give out any personal or financial information just because someone might say over the phone they work for the Canadian Revenue Agency.
The person on the other end of the line might say you’re under suspicion of tax fraud or non-payment and then ask for identification information or money.
A local resident encountered the situation, and was given the number 613-288-9082 to call.
Instead, he took the number to Crime Stoppers and found out it was a fraudulent call.
It’s just another in a string of recent fraudulent and scam calls with people pretending to be CRA agents, last month the OPP asked Ontario residents to not report calls to them but instead report them to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or to their website at www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca.
