Ontario Hospitals Underfunded

President of the Ontario Council of Hospital Unions says that the Province of Ontario has short-changed North Bay hospital care by over $81 million over the past five years.

Michael Hurley says if the hospital was in any other province in Canada, they would’ve seen a $61 million dollar surplus.

Overall, there would be an additional 45,000 hospital employees, more than 15,000 of them nurses, if funding was on par with the rest of Canada.

Hurley hopes by releasing this report the Provincial Government will feel some pressure, and it will embarrass them into action as the 2018 election nears.

Hurley is asking the province to fund the North Bay hospital and surrounding hospitals at their true inflation rate of four per cent, as opposed to the one per cent in the provincial budget.
