The North Bay Police Service has received a number of complaints from people about street racing happening lately on Tower Drive, Carmichael Drive and Smith Road.
Officers are monitoring the area, and will be strictly enforcing the Highway Traffic Act laws.
If an officer sees any street racing or other driving stunts, the drivers involved will face an immediate seven-day licence suspension, and have their vehicle impounded for seven days.
Drivers can face fines from $2,000 to $10,000, a loss of six demerit points, a two year licence suspension and a maximum of six months in jail. Courts can impose a 10-year driver licence suspension for a second conviction within 10 years.
The risk of a fatality or serious injury is almost eight times greater for vehicles crashing at 50 kilometres an hour or more above the posted speed limit of 60 kilometres.
