Week two of the North Bay Police’s traffic enforcement campaign has gotten off to a poor start. In addition to the driver who was hit with a nearly $500 ticket yesterday, Â nine drivers were issued speeding tickets in the Community Safety Zone on O’Brien Street. The highest speed recorded there was 62 kilometres an hour.
Three drivers were slapped with speeding tickets on Marshall Avenue, with the highest speed recorded at 58 kilometres an hour. Police following school buses on their routes yesterday afternoon did not see any infractions by drivers. However, police are also looking into reports of drivers who failed to stop for school buses on Friday and Monday.
Stock Transportation reported eight drivers failed to stop on Friday. The breakdown looks like: 659 McKeown Avenue, 1649 Jane Street, Tower Drive, 869 Algonquin Avenue, 1140 Front Street, Alexander Road at Eglee Avenue, 579 Worthington Street East, and 2469 Trout Lake Road.
An additional six were reported by bus drivers on Monday. At 542 and 836 Algonquin Avenue, 1073 and 1175 Cassells Street, 537 Hardy Street, and 958 Stockdale Road.
The North Bay Police’s traffic enforcement campaign is continuing for the next three days between the peak hours of 7:00am and 9:00am, and 3:00pm and 5:00pm. The fines for being caught speeding in these safe zones, or failing to stop for a school are heavy. You also run the risk of losing six demerit points if caught by police.
