North Bay Police Chief Shawn Devine became a member of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces today at Rideau Hall in Ottawa.
The Order of Merit of the Police Forces was created in 2000, to recognize conspicuous merit and exceptional service by members and employees of Canadian police forces whose contributions extend beyond protection of the community.
There are three levels of membership with post-nominal letters that reflect long-term, and outstanding service: Commander (C.O.M.), Officer (O.O.M.) and Member (M.O.M.).
Governor General David Johnston, who is chancellor of the order, bestowed the honours on one commander, four officers and 47 members.
