Motion passed to thank the Premier for ONTC support

City Council has passed a motion for Mayor Al McDonald to write a letter to Premier Kathleen Wynne, to thank her for her continued support for Ontario Northland. Wynne was in North Bay last month, where she toured the Ontario Northland Refurbishment and Repair Centre. She gave a speech reinforcing her support for the ONTC, and presented one of the refurbished rail cars.

The motion was brought forward by Councillor Mac Bain last night. Bain says the province and the premier have stepped up for North Bay and the ONTC and they should receive a letter of thanks. As part of the motion, a copy of the letter will also be sent to Minister Michael Gravelle, Minister Glenn Thibeault and Chair of the ONTC Tom Laughren. Not a single member of council opposed the motion.

Bain says council is good at asking for help and support from higher levels of government, but could get better at thanking those higher levels. Bain says Ontario Northland is doing much better. It’s strong and doing work across the province, so it’s only right that the community thanks the premier for making an investment in the ONTC.
