Inheritance letter scam popping up in the city

North Bay Police are warning the public about an ongoing inheritance letter scam. Police say someone came to the police station yesterday, with a letter they received in the mail. The letter looks professional, from a company called “Bluegate Professional Inc.” in London, United Kingdom.

It describes the recent death of a fake wealthy foreigner who shares the same last name as the person the letter was sent to. It contains eight paragraphs of information. The letter tries to get people to provide personal information to cash in on the wealthy inheritance, $3.8 million is the amount listed, but ultimately fraudsters are going after the victim’s identity or money.

The second last paragraph is where the letter asks for your name, address, phone number, and e-mail. It says for you to finish the claim on this inheritance within 14 business days. The letter finishes off with a signature from a man by the name of John Greenwood.

The police ask if you receive this letter in the mail, do not respond. Report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or online at www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca.
