The Education Quality and Accountability Officer report is out, and the results aren’t great for the local school boards. The EQAO report shows the percentage of students at or above the provincial standard in Grades 3 and 6 for reading, writing and math at three local boards were all below the provincial average. They include the Near North District School Board, the local French Catholic and French Public Boards.
Grade 6 reading results at the Nipissing Parry Sound Catholic board were right at the provincial mark, while all other areas were below. The amount of students at the provincial average in applied and academic math for grade nine students at the Near North District School board, were both below the provincial average. The local French Catholic board saw academic marks above the provincial average, but applied was below. The local French Public Board also saw both below average.
A specific breakdown for the Near North District School Board shows the percentage of Grade 3 students at the provincial average for reading and writing is 67 per cent. For Math, it takes a nose dive down to just 50 per cent. Grade 6 students come in at 77 per cent for reading, 72 per cent for writing and once again see a drop off in Math at 35 per cent. The breakdown for Grade 9 students only supplies Academic and Applied math, and those numbers are 70 per cent and 38 per cent respectively.
