Mattawa to remain silent on pipeline issue

When it comes to municipalities making public comments about Trans Canada’s Energy East pipeline, Mattawa will be on the sidelines.  The town has accepted $30,000 from Trans Canada so it can buy a rescue truck for the Highway 17 corridor.  But in return, Mattawa has to keep silent about Trans Canada projects and operations for five years.  The proposed pipeline route is close to Mattawa.  Bloomberg news learned of the development but found mayor Dean Backer wasn’t around to comment when it called him.
