Don Rennick returns to North Bay city hall for silent protest

On the night North Bay council discussed potential changes to public presentations, the man barred from giving a presentation in September made his return to council chambers. Don Rennick sat in the middle row, directly behind where public presenters sit. He did not attempt to make a presentation last night, instead sat quietly and placed a piece of duct tape over his mouth as a sign of silent protest.

Rennick was stopped from making a public presentation back on September 5th. Mayor Al McDonald stopped Rennick after he started speaking, and asked him to withdraw remarks he had made about staff back in May. Rennick then asked the mayor to repeat the remarks so he would know what to apologize for. McDonald did, saying staff has been misleading council, and council has been unable to grasp this fact. Rennick replied why would he apologize for those remarks.

The mayor was asked whether or not he noticed Rennick’s silent protest in the gallery during the meeting. McDonald says he didn’t notice because he was focused only on the meeting. He says they hold these public meetings to hear what people have to say. McDonald concluded by saying that council won’t make any decisions until they receive feedback from the public.
