Mattawa is shooting for the stars. A 32-thousand dollar FedNor grant is being used to build a regional observatory in the town. The observatory will be at the Canadian Ecology Centre, and will feature a high-power telescope that’s been donated by the North Bay Astronomy Club. A building is being constructed to house the telescope that will have a retractable roof so that visitors can view billions of stars. MP Jay Aspin hopes the observatory will increase tourism and economic growth in the community.
