City launches new garbage collection and recycling app

Residents who want instant and mobile access to waste information can now download a new app from the city that puts garbage, recycling, and other waste management services at your fingertips. The Recycle Coach™ app provides residents with instant access to waste collection schedules and services.

That includes details on collection dates, materials accepted for recycling or disposal, drop-off depots, hours and rates and more. The app also allows residents to set up personalized reminders for any of the collection programs. As an example, you can set a reminder for the day that recycling is collected, or set up an alert for upcoming Goods Exchange days.

Chair of Engineering and Works, Tanya Vrebosch says this is a new way for them to connect with residents and provide information in a more convenient and accessible way. Vrebosch says while most people know their recycling scheduling, this will help with holiday and weather related scheduling.

Vrebosch says the app is available on Android and Apple phones right now, the only people out of luck right now are people with blackberries. Vrebosch finished by saying despite the app, they will still be getting the information out through calendars and on the city’s website.
