The Ombudsman has cleared West Nipissing council of an allegation that it met illegally to discuss a drainage project. A letter to the Ombudsman this past June claims council and engineers discussed the project behind closed doors in December 2011. However, the office talked to the clerk, members of council and the engineers and everyone says there was no such meeting. What did take place was a meeting between the engineers and landowners on the December date in question but no councillors were present. As far as the Ombudsman is concerned, the matter is now closed and it’s not taking any further action on this issue.
