Community Foundation Executive Director, Kate Merritt-Dupelle says their first year in 2010 they gave out only $5,000 in grants. She says this wouldn’t be possible without the generous people who care about the community. Merritt-Dupelle says they’re lucky to have people who have been raised in this community, have kids in this community and want to have a legacy in this community. The organization accepts grant applications all year, up to December 31st. Following that, they have a grants community that reviews the applications and then they get approved by the board of directors.
When it comes to how the money gets doled out, donors can have a say. Merritt-Dupelle says they have some donor advised funds, where donors can look at applications and decide where they’d like the money to go. She says usually they look at them after the grants community has done their scoring, and they look at it based on that. Merritt-Dupelle says some donors just want to donate to the community as a whole. She says that money goes into their smart and caring community’s fund, and the grants committee assesses what goes where after that.
They also announced the details for their fundraising dinner. It will be on Friday, May 5th with a five course meal and auctions. Tickets are $100 each with a $50 tax receipt and you can call 705-495-3737 for more information.
