MP Anthony Rota touts the positives of innovation and training funding in federal budget

With the fear of technology taking away jobs in the future, the 2017 federal budget has set out ideas to develop skills and help companies adapt with an ever-changing global economy. Nipissing-Temiskaming MP Anthony Rota says with technology evolving and industries changing everyday it’s important for the government to be proactive and not reactive. Rota says the federal government’s investment in innovation and training in this year’s budget will have an impact for years to come.

In the federal budget, there are measures to encourage adults to go back to school, to support part-time studies, as well as funding for kids to improve their digital skills. Rota says it’s important for government to be ahead of the curb. He says when you look at how things have evolved, 100 years ago buggy whip manufacturers were in good shape but today not so much. Rota added when you look at technology, you have to follow it and to follow it they have to provide proper training to people.

Rota says with technology evolving, some labour market jobs will disappear in the years to come and it’s important for people in those fields to have the necessary training to survive. He says as new technology comes in, new positions are created. Rota says it’s important to have the proper training to help get people into the next phase in their lives or get prepared for a new position.
