Nipissing University is the site for the FIRST Robotics Canada qualifying competition that will see more than 700 high school students descend on the campus.

This year is the fourth year North Bay has hosted a FIRST Robotics Competition and the university will welcome a total of 27 teams from all over Ontario. It represents the highest level of robotics competition offered by FIRST. High-school students team up with the world’s best technology companies to build robots from scratch in only six weeks. The robots then compete in high intensity robo-sports.

The competition will be held in Nipissing’s Robert J. Surtees Student Athletics Centre. Set up began on Wednesday, and teams arrive today to load-in and practice. The competition gets underway tomorrow at 10:00am with Opening Ceremonies, and runs until 6:30pm. It picks up again on Saturday morning, running from 8:30am until 6:00pm. The final rounds run from 2:05pm until 5:00pm, with the final awards ceremony starting at 5:00pm.
