Flood outlook statement issued by the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority

Due to all the rain overnight, the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority has issued a flood outlook water conditions statement. Duty Officer Katelyn Lynch says several watersheds have received a lot rainfall over the past week, and snow continues to melt.

Lynch says water levels and flows across much of the North Bay-Mattawa area are expected to remain elevated through the week. Lynch says the risk of flooding and high water continues as runoff from recent rain and seasonal snowmelt travels through the local watersheds.

Snow depths measured during NBMCA’s most recent snow survey on April 6th ranged between 11 and 29 cm in the watersheds. Lynch added while the snowpack and water content are diminishing, the ground remains saturated.

Watercourses are mostly free of ice and ice breaking away from shorelines in area lakes. Banks adjacent to rivers and creeks are very slippery at this time and when combined with cold open water, pose a serious hazard. This flood outlook message will be in effect until or updated before Friday at 12:00pm.
