Tories and NDP say Ring of Fire in big trouble

The Ring of Fire is in deep trouble.  That’s according to the NDP’s northern development critic, Mike Mantha.  Mantha, who is also the MPP for Algoma Manitoulin, says Cliffs Natural Resources is looking to sell its chromite deposit at the site.  Cliffs is the largest mining company at the Ring of Fire and suspended all activity last year because of no action to move the project forward.  Mantha says because of a lack of movement there’s no guarantee that any other mining company will buy Cliffs’ stake at the site.   And add Parry Sound-Muskoka MPP Norm Miller’s voice to concern over the Ring of Fire.     The Tory northern development critic is also reacting to Cliffs’ decision to potentially sell its mining stake.  Miller says just a few years ago Cliffs had set next year as a start-up date to mine chromite at the site.  He says because of another Liberal failure, this is not going to happen.
