Workforce Week underway in the Nipissing area

It’s Workforce Week in North Bay and around the area. The week is an attempt to bring people together to try to fill some of the 400-plus job vacancies in the city. The Labour Market Group and YES Employment will be putting on events throughout the week and LMG executive director Stacie Fiddler believes it’s the first time a full week of workforce development opportunities has been offered in North Bay. LMG has been producing a monthly job vacancy study for the last two years, specifically highlighting what’s available in the city. The report has been averaging about 400 positions a month in that time.

Two job fairs are being offered as part of Workforce Week. The virtual online job fair happened this morning, and the traditional job fair is on Thursday from 10:00am to 3:00pm at the Davedi Club. The fair brings employers and potential employees together at one site. Tomorrow will see the Get Job Ready program get underway at The Grande Event Centre. The event helps job-seekers prepare for employment, including advice from local employment experts on how to prepare the tools needed for interviewing and preparing resumes.

On Friday, Workopolis President Andrea Ziegler will speak on workforce trends in Canada and Ontario, and a presentation of local job vacancies also will be featured. For a full run down of the rest of the week: www.thelabourmarketgroup.ca/workforce-week
