NBMCA issues flood outlook ahead of weekend full of rain

The North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority has issued a flood outlook due to the five-day forecast calling for 25 to 50 millimetres of rain.

Duty Officer Katelyn Lynch says the ground has pretty much thawed, but it is saturated and if we had more vegetation or leaf out on the trees, they could be absorbing some of the rain. But right now, with the amount forecast, and the intensity of rainfall involved with thunderstorms, Lynch says they need to be aware that water levels will be impacted.

Water levels across the North Bay-Mattawa region remain elevated due to recent precipitation and the last of the snow melt over the past week. Lynch says Lake Nipissing is currently at its maximum operating level, 195.95m. She finished by saying the precipitation over the next four days could see the the lake level rise to a concerning level.
