Mental Health week underway in North Bay

The 66th annual CHMA Mental Health Week begins today. The Canadian Mental Health Association is calling on everyone to get loud for mental health to end discrimination, stigma and shame. Starting today, until May 7th events are going on in the city and the surrounding areas to raise awareness over mental health. A full breakdown of the event list can be found here:  http://nipissing.cmha.ca/events/mental-health-week-2017/

CHMA Nipissing Branch Executive Director Jenny Leblond says getting loud for mental health can be done in different ways. Leblond says whether you’re shouting it from the rooftops, or talking quietly with someone at home, getting loud means breaking the silence that surround mental health issues. CHMA Mental Health Week was introduced in 1951, and officials say it has become a Canadian tradition. The week gives people a forum to speak up about mental health issues, whether that’s how it affects them or the people they care about.
