Mining Week moving along in North Bay

Mining Week is well underway in North Bay with the top event of the week, Spark the Fire, fast approaching. On Friday from 8:30am until 4:00pm at the Best Western on Lakeshore Drive, leaders from around Northern Ontario will come together for a discussion about the Ring of Fire. Ontario’s Ring of Fire represents a $60-billion multi-generational economic opportunity that experts have argued is possibly the world’s most promising mineral development project in more than a century.

Ontario Society of Professional Engineers CEO Sandro Perruzza says it’s been called a game changer for the Canadian economy, and needs to be discussed. Perruzza says it’s been ten years since it was discovered off the James Bay coast, and today it seems as though the massive potential of the Ring of Fire is flaming out. He says as a country we simply cannot afford to let that happen.

Engineering, industry, government, academic, and First Nations leaders will come together for an important discussion on the future of Ontario’s North this Friday. Innovation, energy, infrastructure, environmental stewardship, and relations with First Nations Communities will all be talked about during discussions about the future development of Ontario’s North. Some other guest speakers at the event include former Ontario Premier Bob Rae, Noront Resources President Alan Coutts, and Ontario Regional Chief Isadore Day.

The mining sector is a significant contributor to North Bay’s economy, and organizers want to use the Mining Week format to inform the community about the many opportunities in mining and to highlight how international and innovative local mining groups are.
