Water samples tested for PFAS by DND within the Health Canada Drinking Water Screening Values

The Department of National Defence tested private water samples around the 22 Wing area from April 6th to the 10th for Perfluoroalkylated substances (PFAS), and the results are all within the Health Canada Drinking Water Screening Values.

The testing was on top of samples taken back in February that found detectable levels of PFAS, but were all within Health Canada screening values as well. As the health and safety of Canadians and members of the Canadian Armed Forces is a priority, the DND will be testing some additional samples from select locations over the next few months to monitor for seasonal variability.

They are continuing to work closely with the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change and the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit to ensure water at 22 Wing North Bay and nearby is safe. Both the Health Unit and DND are committed to protecting the privacy of the property owners, so the area of testing will remain confidential. The information gathered during the sampling process will be protected as private, as it will include property owner names, addresses, and sampling results.
