Mark King bringing forward motion calling on the province to create tax incentives in NE Ontario next week

Northeastern Ontario has seen population declines in most cities across the region, with the one exception being Sudbury, and as a result there’s been a lack of growth. Councillor Mark King says it’s time to do something about it. King is planning to bring forward a motion next week calling on the province to create tax incentives in Northeastern Ontario.

King says it’s basically of a copy of a motion passed by the City of Sault Ste. Marie Council recently. He says they’ve had internal discussions as a council about this issue before. King added based on the position they’re in, in Northeastern Ontario, something has to give. He says he doesn’t believe it will give before the next provincial election, because the province is scrambling right now to shore up support elsewhere.

King says this overall issue they’re facing in Northeastern Ontario has been going on for a decade. He says the economic activity as far as construction is concerned isn’t good. King added it’s also having a negative impact on the community, especially looking at drug addiction and enforcement of the law in the city. He says all of those things are telltale signs of what’s going on in the economy. King finished by saying he’s discouraged to see what’s going on, so they have to try to do something to change that.
