Unable to block the sale of Ontera to Bell Aliant, the Competition Bureau has done the next best thing. It’s ordering Bell to lease the telecommunications network to East Link. Charlie Angus, the federal MP for Timmins-James Bay, says this ensures new players can enter the market. But Angus adds it shows that even the federal watchdog thought the sale would have a negative effect on competition in the north. Angus says the leasing deal limits damage from the sale.
